Faculty
  • Track students receiving DSP-approved accommodations in each course.
  • Serve as subject expert on your course advising DSP on core requirements, course design, pedagogy, etc.
  • Collaborate with DSP to determine appropriate accommodations that do not alter the core standards of the course.
  • Receive (via email or hardcopy) Letters of Accommodation from any student requesting to use accommodations in the course.
  • Receive reasonable notice of intension to use accommodations.
  • Provide accommodations without fundamentally altering the core requirements of the course.
  • Expect students to have registered with DSP before receiving accommodations via the faculty of the course.
  • Protect each student’s privacy with regards to DSP registration and any approved accommodations/services.
  • (if requested) assist DSP with securing a student notetaker in your course.
Students
  • Provide formal Letters of Accommodation (via email or in-person) to faculty each semester.
  • Register with DSP at any point in an academic term.
  • Notify faculty of registration with DSP and approved accommodations/services in a timely manner (ideally as early in the term as possible).
  • Notify faculty in a reasonable timeframe of intension to use accommodations for tests or assignments (if DSP-approved). Guidance on timing is offered in the accommodation descriptions in this section of the website as well as the Current DSP Students section.
DSP
  • Serve as on-going point of contact and continual resource for faculty and students.
  • Advise the broader University on matters of equal access, non-discrimination and accessibility.
  • Work with faculty and academic programs to determine appropriate accommodations and services that do not cause a fundamental alteration to standards of the University, program of study or course(s).
  • Possibly offer mediation between students and University faculty/staff in complex cases.
