I often work with Lisa Toft and her staff in the office of Student Accessibility Services and always find them responsive and helpful.  They are very supportive of students but understand national norms in accommodation and assist students in meeting the expectations of their faculty.  They are committed to leveling the playing field so that students with particular challenges can succeed, but do so with great respect for the integrity of faculty defined requirements.  I would encourage any faculty member with uncertainty about accommodations to speak frankly with them, to make certain that all our students are treated fairly and compassionately.

I am writing this note to commend the USC Office of Student Accessibility Services Team.   I have had the opportunity to work with many of you to assist students over the past several years.  Each time I reached out to consult on how to best support a student, your team was professional, helpful, knowledgeable, and insightful.   Each time we spoke, I felt confident with the strategies and guidance that was shared to be able to effectively support students that had an accommodation in my class.  This ranged from assistance to ensure the materials were able to be utilized by a student with impaired vision to helping to coach a student how to communicate effectively on how she needed her accommodation to be implemented.   Thank you so much for your compassion, knowledge and support to our students and to us as professors!

I am truly grateful,

Professor Betsy
